As education costs continue to rise for students across the country, LGBTQ youth often face greater barriers to educational attainment and success. The Horizons LGBTQ Scholarship supports LGBTQ students entering higher education, which may include community college or traditional four-year university. Horizons Foundation is proud to offer scholarship awards to graduates from SF Bay Area high schools to invest in the Bay Area LGBTQ community and further our vision of a world where all LGBTQ people live freely and fully.
The Horizons LGBTQ Scholarship welcomes applications from historically under-represented segments of the LGBTQ community in higher education. For example, LGBTQ students of color, transgender students, LGBTQ immigrant students including “Undocuqueers”, LGBTQ students who are the first to attend college in their family, and LGBTQ applicants who have experienced homelessness, foster care, and/or the juvenile justice system.
The fund is supported by the Adolph Y. Bremerman, Jr. Scholarship “Bremerman Scholarship” and the Lester Mark Scholarship. The Bremerman Scholarship focuses on LGBTQ students who have graduated from Oakland Unified School District. The Lester Mark Scholarship focuses on LGBTQ students who have graduated from a high school located in one of the nine Bay Area counties.
